Roxbury, Massachusetts – Jun 6, 2024– The inaugural Black Boy Joy Summit, presented by CCM Education Group, is set to empower and inspire Black and Brown boys ages 12-18. Scheduled for October 5, 2024, at the historic Bolling Building in Roxbury, MA.

The Black Boy Joy Summit, founded by Craig Aarons-Martin, embraces this year’s theme, “We are the Heroes of Our Own Story,” aiming to empower these young men to embrace their joy, genius, and potential. By fostering a nurturing environment where they can connect, share their stories, and uplift each other, the summit seeks to instill confidence and leadership skills in participants, preparing them to navigate and excel in a diverse and challenging world.

History and Purpose:
The Black Boy Joy Summit envisions a world where young Black and Brown males in Greater Boston are celebrated for their resilience, creativity, and brilliance. Our summit is dedicated to fostering an environment of understanding, empowerment, and joy, recognizing the unique talents and potential within each individual. Through workshops, mentorship, and positive role models, the summit aims to foster self-esteem, leadership skills, and cultural pride among participants.

Intended Impact:

  • Empower Young Black and Brown Men: Foster self-esteem, confidence, and leadership skills among participants through workshops, mentorship, and positive role models.
  • Create a Supportive Community Network: Build a lasting network of peers, mentors, and community leaders to provide ongoing support, guidance, and opportunities for collaboration.
  • Enhance Cultural and Self-Identity: Promote understanding and pride in Black and Brown heritage, encouraging participants to explore and embrace their cultural identities.
  • Facilitate Open Dialogue on Critical Issues: Create safe spaces for open and honest discussions about mental health, social justice, educational challenges, and other pertinent topics affecting Black and Brown communities.
  • Promote Mental and Physical Wellness: Integrate wellness activities and education into the summit, emphasizing the importance of mental health, physical fitness, and holistic well-being.
  • Inspire Creative and Intellectual Pursuits: Showcase the arts, sciences, and entrepreneurial endeavors as viable and exciting paths, encouraging creativity, innovation, and academic excellence.

The Black Boy Joy Summit will feature a variety of workshop tracks, including Arts & Da Culture, STEM, Minding My Black-Owned Business, My People, My Network, Mind, Body, and Spirit, and My Voice Moves Mountains. Participants will have the opportunity to connect with peers and mentors, engage in meaningful discussions, and participate in activities designed to promote their overall well-being and development.

About the Founder:
Craig Aarons-Martin is a distinguished educator and leader with a history of empowering young minds. As the founder of Brown Boys of Boston EdCamp and a recipient of numerous awards, including the Boston Educator of the Year and Massachusetts Elementary Principal of the Year, Craig brings a wealth of experience and passion to the Black Boy Joy Summit.
